Activities in and around Hole in the Wall

Explore the area on foot

A network of walking trails, including the Sacred Pool Hike, crisscross the hills and villages behind Coffee Bay and lead to high lookout points over the bay, the rugged coastline and the beautiful Mthatha river mouth.

Coffee Bay <-> Hole in the Wall Hike

The amazing hike from Coffee Bay to Hole in the Wall traverses high sea cliffs and rolling green hills and is approximately 3 hours in either direction. Along the way, the hiker passes Xhosa villages and the Baby Hole and is treated to spectacular views of the coastline. A steep path up the Whale's Back provides a different view of Hole in the Wall, for those with enough energy left.

It is advisable to take plenty of water and leave early, as it's a 6-hour round trip, not including stops. Pack a bathing costume and towel so you can have a dip at the Hole.
